Powwow is the Native People's way of meeting together to join in dancing, singing, visiting, renewing friendships, and making new ones. This is a time to carry thoughts of the old ways and preserve a rich culture and heritage. There are different stories of how powwows started. Some believe that the War Dance Society of the Ponca and other Southern Plains tribes were the origin of powwows.
